Short Synopsis for Immortal Temptation
Immortal Temptation begins in 1890 when Jack Hawk, an immortal, must destroy his beloved wife, Raven. Eager to flee from the pain of his loss, he and his trusted manservant Pierre LaFleur leave the Hawk estate in the dead of night.
Chapter two moves forward to Los Angeles in 1996 where the real story begins, commencing with the introduction of Destiny Star and Brandy Rose, two young women who were thrown out of their respective homes when they were fifteen years old by dysfunctional parents. Fate brought the girls together, where they managed to survive simply but with integrity. It begins with a dream sequence where Destiny is dreaming of the stepfather who tried to rape her when she was only nine years old; then the story sets out to take the reader through the “real world” events that ultimately lead to her introduction to Pierre, who is now a member of Hawk Talent Agency. Pierre is convinced Destiny fits what he needs as a spokesmodel for a new cosmetics and fragrance line.
Several relationships develop as the cosmetics line introduces what turns out to be an incredibly successful ad campaign for their fragrance Immortal Youth’s Destiny, which serves to intensify the conflict as the characters struggle with the reality of the limitations between mortals and immortals. Brandy, a mortal, and Pierre, an immortal, become romantically involved after sharing a life threatening moment at an amusement park. Jack is powerfully attracted to Destiny and the feeling is mutual, but a secret keeps them apart. Destiny knows nothing of Jack’s immortal identity and because of the perfect recollection that immortals retain, Jack can’t seem to move past the freshly memorable horror of his first wife’s death and keeps pushing Destiny away.
The inevitable happens and Destiny learns of Jack’s immortal nature when he saves her from being shot by an obsessed fan. Jack decides the best way to keep the women safe is to offer them a wing of his mansion to live in. It is then that Destiny asks Jack to tell them about his origins. He agrees and we flash back to the year 1790 where we meet Jack Hawk as a mortal, a British aristocrat loved by nobility and peasant alike, and Aramis Avante, whose wisdom and compassion for his immortal family knows no bounds.
Destiny and Brandy decide to take Jack’s offer and accept moving into his home. Still, it isn’t until after Destiny is kidnapped and nearly killed by a deranged young immortal named Daphne—who is hoping to become rich at Jack Hawk’s expense—that Jack finds peace with his feelings for her. Daphne is destroyed and a fascinating case is introduced when her brother Alan, whom she had kept weak and uninformed, learns what it means to be a true immortal under the tutelage of his new family in Jack Hawk’s household.
The climax builds for our immortal players as associates of Daphne’s attempt revenge for her demise. It is here that a loveable rogue named Victor Wolfe storms into the family’s lives as the hand selected to deliver revenge. Things are not always as they seem, and in the end Victor is the only member of Daphne’s “family” left standing. Readers learn throughout the turn of events the price that immortals must pay for the gift of eternal life and youth: perfect memory of every joyful and painful moment, the struggle to adjust to increased strength and extrasensory perceptions, a life of secrets, and a constant quest to avoid being “discovered” by the mortal race.
In the end, this extended immortal family of Jack’s triumphs over all their obstacles and in a spectacularly unconventional wedding, Jack and Pierre marry the women of their dreams. To quote the catch phrase of the fragrance line commercials, “When you are meant to be together, it is destiny.”
